Strange days indeed...

It's interesting times on Capitol Hill these days. The far left of the democratic party is vying for the leadership positions while what’s left of moderate thinkers are trying to move the party back towards the center. It will be fun to watch! More on this subject later…

It’s all about politics to the New York Times

An article today in the New York Times stated, “President Bush on Sunday seized on the conviction of Saddam Hussein as a milestone in Iraq, seeking to rally Republican voters with the issue of national security as some polls suggested that his party might be making gains in the final hours of the campaign.” Leave it to the NYT to insinuate political hay-making by the Republicans over an Iraqi court convicting the former dictator of war crimes. Look for this headline soon: “Kim Jong Il found not-so-favorable among his own people, GOP seeks to exploit gap”.

Contrary to popular belief, not everything is about politics (or, more accurately, not everything relates to President Bush). A court finding the leader of its own country guilty of well-documented war crimes is about…wait for it…Iraq! It’s about a fledgling democracy grabbing hold of its own boot straps and pulling itself into the modern rule-by-the-people world, not Carl Rove. The article goes on to quote Rep. John Murtha, Dem., PA., as saying that while the verdict was right, the more important issue was the calling of the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld by editorials in various military newspapers. And just when I thought they were reaching too far…

The Democrats will stop at nothing to blame failures on President Bush or spin positive events in such a way as to suggest nefarious campaign tactics (i.e. gas prices). Another example of how reclamation of power is the objective, with the end absolutely justifying the (hysterical) means.

tribute to my beloved Bailey

For my beloved Bailey. She truly proved that dog is man's best friend. May she be found herding stock near the rainbow bridge...

Who's the Real Idiot?

For six years, we have been told by the dinosaur media (soon to share the fate of their namesake) that George W. Bush is an idiot. All the while we have been force-fed the notion that those on the left are among the smartest, the most enlightened, the most caring people who have ever cast shadows on this terrestrial ball. Sen. John Kerry, Democrat-Mass., has stepped into a familiar smelling pile with his recent ‘gaffe’ of impugning our brave men and women in the armed services. Familiar smelling because Kerry has a history of these kind of statements, all the way back to the time when he returned from Vietnam and accused troops of atrocities, which to my knowledge has not been substantiated.

Compare Kerry’s statement and subsequent meltdown at a press conference to the statesmanship behavior of the President and his administration. Do you hear any on the right screaming for Nancy Pelosi’s resignation in the wake of Kerry’s comments as the left did for Dennis Hastert’s over the Mark Foley scandal? Do you hear the President name-calling or finger-pointing? The President did call for Sen. Kerry to apologize to the troops, which was completely appropriate. The absolute hysteria that permeates the Democratic party is breathtaking. Where is the once proud party of the alphabet presidents FDR and JFK, who stared aggressive enemies in the face and relied on the might of our military to back them up? The military will, must and should be silent on such political mud-slinging. But their voice will be heard on November 7th.

All this has me thinking: are we witnessing the utter collapse of the Democratic Party before our very eyes? Clearly, the party has been hijacked by the far left fringe of their voting base, thereby turning its back on rational and meaningful governance. That’s from within; but what about external influences? Is there some force nudging them over the cliff?

In the 1980’s, Ronald Reagan recognized a chink in the armor of the Soviet Union; a weak national economy. He exploited that chink by increasing our military weapons production, thereby forcing the Soviet Union to keep pace. It could not. The USSR fell and the cold war was over. Has the ‘idiot’ that currently occupies the White House recognized a gap in the Democratic Party platform, and worked these six years to exploit it?

Yes, military spending soared in the 80’s, but the reward was the collapse of the largest bastion of communism. Domestic spending is currently at an all-time high, but is the reward the defeat of the dangerous foreign policy ideals that have come to the surface in the Democratic agenda? By taking away the issues couched in an ever increasing federal bureaucracy, President Bush has cornered the left and forced them to reveal their true identity on foreign policy, which has proved to be the chink. Isolationism, acquiescence to the UN and the EU, appeasement of dictators and a disdain for the United States military illustrates the attitude of the Democratic Party, an attitude that has been made naked by the likes of such people as Sen. Kerry. A dangerous policy indeed in the current climate of Islamo-Fascist terrorism.

Don’t get me wrong. I am identifying myself more and more these days with the likes of Barry Goldwater, more Libertarian than Republican, repulsed by the welfare state that this country has become. But forced to choose between national security and a bloated federal budget, I have to choose to preserve the nation and deal with the budget later. After all, no NATION, no DOMESTIC spending, as out of control as it may be. Is this how the President sees this? “Let’s preserve the nation, defeat the political enemies that threaten the very foundational ideals of the Constitution, and we’ll deal with rabid spending later. (Oh, and let’s cut taxes while we’re at it, to stimulate the economy and take another issue away from the Democrats)."

If the Republicans hold both houses in the upcoming midterm elections, it will be a moratorium on forty years of failed leftist policy and a referendum of nationalism.
