It’s all about politics to the New York Times

An article today in the New York Times stated, “President Bush on Sunday seized on the conviction of Saddam Hussein as a milestone in Iraq, seeking to rally Republican voters with the issue of national security as some polls suggested that his party might be making gains in the final hours of the campaign.” Leave it to the NYT to insinuate political hay-making by the Republicans over an Iraqi court convicting the former dictator of war crimes. Look for this headline soon: “Kim Jong Il found not-so-favorable among his own people, GOP seeks to exploit gap”.

Contrary to popular belief, not everything is about politics (or, more accurately, not everything relates to President Bush). A court finding the leader of its own country guilty of well-documented war crimes is about…wait for it…Iraq! It’s about a fledgling democracy grabbing hold of its own boot straps and pulling itself into the modern rule-by-the-people world, not Carl Rove. The article goes on to quote Rep. John Murtha, Dem., PA., as saying that while the verdict was right, the more important issue was the calling of the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld by editorials in various military newspapers. And just when I thought they were reaching too far…

The Democrats will stop at nothing to blame failures on President Bush or spin positive events in such a way as to suggest nefarious campaign tactics (i.e. gas prices). Another example of how reclamation of power is the objective, with the end absolutely justifying the (hysterical) means.
